Tony La Russa looking to manage All Star game against his arch rival - MLB News
Former Major League Baseball legend, Tony La Russa will be managing the National League team in an All Star contest. La Russa is expected to come out of retirement for one day to perform the management duties.
The former infielder and big league manager, La Russa is best known for his accomplishments during his tenure with St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics. His presence in the game is expected to attract a large number of his supporters in Kansas City.
La Russa had an absolutely great time as a manager of St. Louis Cardinals last season as he helped his side secure the World Series title. He is a very popular face among the Cardinals fans. Showing his management and operating skills, La Russa led Major League teams to six league victories and three World Series titles in his astonishing career. He will be hoping to get the best possible results from the All Star game.
The former infielder is expected to continue his managerial job with the National League team and he will be hoping to make his career stats look more impressive by posting another good victory over his arch rival; Ron Washington. The All Star game will feature the best players and the best management staff from the entire league. In an interview with a leading sports website, Commissioner Bud Selig stated that everybody at the venue will be celebrating one the greatest managerial careers in history of the game.
"Tony earned this opportunity with the remarkable run that the Cardinals completed last October, and I am delighted that he shared my enthusiasm about his staying in this role,'' commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement. "The All-Star Game celebrates all the best of our game, and it is very appropriate that we will have the chance to celebrate one of the greatest managerial careers of all-time as a part of our festivities."
La Russa's managerial opponent in the All Star game will be Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, who helped the Rangers achieve considerable results last season. The two managers share a very friendly relationship off the field.
