Tony La Russa quiet on Game 7 starter – MLB World Series Update
The St. Louis Cardinals manager on Wednesday, October 26 declined to reveal the name of starter for Game 7 of the World Series. While Jaime Garcia remains unchanged for Game 6 as rain washed away Wednesday’s encounter, Game 7 remains a guessing game.
However, there is little surprise why there has been the kind of quiet being seen when it comes to naming the starter for Game 7. The Cardinals first have to beat the Texas Rangers if they want to try their best pitcher in the last game of the best-of-seven
series.
With the Texas Rangers having a firm grip on the World Series with a 3-2 lead, if they manage to win Thursday’s game, they will clinch the title for the first time in their history. Therefore, the desperation and expectation on both fronts makes perfect
sense.
Tony La Russa, who remains the brains and arguably, the single most powerfully motivating factor behind the victories of the Cardinals, commented that the team first has to perfectly execute Thursday’s task of winning Game 6 to stay afloat in the World Series.
"I told our players after the game that in conversation with Dave [Duncan, pitching coach], we have a really positive feel how we would pitch that game." La Russa said. "We need to get there first and then we can talk about it."
The biggest names available for Game 7, on the other hand, are Chris Carpenter, Kyle Lohse, Edwin Jackson and Jake Westbrook. But the hesitance stems from the fact that there is no certainty, but hope, about Game 6.
"There isn't any part of me that doesn't want to have a Game 7," La Russa said, "but every other part of me says let's think about Game 6 first."
All now depends on the strong arm of Jaime Garcia, and an expectedly resurgent Cardinals’ offence. Only the best amalgamation of the two, coordinated effort and strong play, can help the Redbirds to prevail. If that does not happen, it will be the formal
enunciation of the Cardinals’ departure from the World Series.
