After winning the stage, Tony said, "I'm very satisfied with the way I rode, the weather conditions I got were really good. The two climbs are pretty hard but I was lucky to have a tailwind. I also rode a good downhill at the end."
Recently, Tony took the overall second spot in Tour de Romandie and also won the sixth stage of Tour of Basque country. He also won overall Volta ao Algarve and Paris-Nice race.
A four-man break formed early in the stage, comprising of Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad), Bradley Wiggins (Sky Procycling), Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Procycling) and David Zabriskie (Team Garmin-Cervelo).
All of them gained a lead, but the last two riders were caught by the peloton. The overall race leader, Wiggins was in good form and made an early move, but he failed to maintain his pace and Tony crossed the finish line with the help of his HTC-highroad
team without any difficulty.
The second stage winner, John Degenkolb grabbed the 106th spot with 5 minutes and 22 seconds.
Tony further added, "I think step by step it goes better for me. I had four weeks off, I had no races, and I had to come into this race. The first days were really hard for me, but now I can see things are going better and better. So far I feel really good."
