Looks like a match-up made in heaven. The prospect of McCoy being in the saddle on Denman adds another dimension to a race that has already been dubbed the “war of the ‘Wolds”. The record between Kauto Star and Denman in the Gold Cup stands at 1-1 and the chance of Walsh and McCoy – regarded as the two headline jockeys in the jumps weighing room - going head-to-head on the two best jump horses in training would be pure marketing gold.

I looked at the comparative stats between McCoy and Walsh and Walsh is favoured. He has a better overall strike rate, his horses tend to be better betting propositions and, looking at the ratings of performances under each jockey, Walsh's rides tend to run closer to their best. I don't know whether it will come down to jockey ability, but if it did, Walsh would be the one to be on.
