Tony Mowbray unveiled as Middlesbrough boss
Middlesbrough has unveiled Tony Mowbray, a former captain at the club, as their new manager.
Mowbray was a key member of the side, which gained successive promotions to reach the top flight of English football in 1988. He will be taking over from Gordon Strachan, who has resigned from the role.
A boyhood fan of the club, Mowbray faces a tough task if he is to steer Boro towards promotion to the English Premier League. The club is sitting in the relegation zone of the Football League Championship, having picked up just 11 points from 13 games despite
being the pre-season favourites to win the division.
But the former Hibernian and West Bromwich Albion manager insisted that he can apply his brand of flowing, attacking football at the Riverside Stadium and help Boro move into a play-off spot.
"The supporters want to see the team winning and want to get out of their seats and enjoy their football. I preach good habits every single day and want a football team that play with a certain style. I want to turn this ship round and get it steaming forward
towards the sunny skies and Premier League success. Hopefully, we can put out a team that draws people back."
The 46-year-old added that he always believed he would return to manage the club one day.
"I've been a Middlesbrough fan since I was six or seven and I used to stand on the terraces with my dad. So once the opportunity arose and a few things were ironed out it didn't take me a moment's thought. I've got the opportunity to steer the club back
to where we all want to be, in the Premier League against the best players in the world."
