Tony Parker all cleared to play for national side in Summer Olympics – NBA News
The French national team received great news when their ace player Tony Parker was given the green light by Doctors to participate in the Summer Olympics being held in London later this month. Moreover, Parker will also be available for the exhibition matches
and warm up games in the days leading up to the Olympics, which begin on July 27th.
“The two (Spurs-chosen) ophthalmologists confirmed the opinion of the French doctor who operated on Tony Parker, and the two Swiss specialists who also examined the player last Thursday, and indicated that he can resume playing,” read a statement issued
by the San Antonio Spurs.
Parker got hit in the eye with a bottle a few weeks ago when he was present at a New York night club where a fight broke out between singers/R&B artists Chris Brown and Drake. The fight escalated into a full out brawl between the entourage of both artists
and pretty soon, bottles started flying around in the club. One of the bottles hit Parker in the eye as he reportedly tried to protect his date. The hit scratched the cornea of Parker’s eye and he had to undergo surgery.
The French doctor who operated on Parker gave him the green light to participate in the Olympics, as well as two Swiss specialists who examined him later. However, the Spurs were not letting their star player compete without a full check up by handpicked
specialists. The doctors selected by the Spurs gave him the green light and the Spurs cleared him to go play for his country.
Parker will now take his place as the point guard and leader of the French national team alongside Boris Diaw and Nicolas Batum, among other players. The French national team will play its first game of the Olympics on July 29th against the United
States.
Parker has also sued the New York club where he received the injury.
