Tony Parker gets his first ever triple-double; San Antonio Spurs edge out Houston Rockets in O.T: NBA Recap
James Harden-less Houston Rockets pushed the San Antonio Spurs to overtime but came out short eventually as the Spurs won 134-126 here at the Toyota Center on Monday night.
Gary Neal scored a career high 7 three pointers on his way to a career high 29 points, Tony Parker posted a triple-double with 27 points 12 assists and 12 rebounds while Emanuel Ginobili came off the bench to post 22 points for
the winning cause.
"I was like, Man if we lose, nobody is going to care,"' Parker said with a laugh about his triple-double. "Now that we won the game it makes it even better, because at the end of the day people only care about wins."
Jeremy Lin had a monstrous night as he gathered 38 points and handed out 7 assists, Omer Asik posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Chandler Parsons collected 20 points and hauled down 7 rebounds.
"I'm thankful that I was able to get comfortable out there, but that's definitely secondary to the fact that we blew another close game," Lin was visibly displeased that his big night did not result in a win.
Patrick Patterson tipped one in early in the period to put the Rockets up 6-0 before the Spurs scored 5 quick points to make it 5-6. The score was tied on 9 and then again on 13 before the Rockets started to pull ahead later in
the quarter. An exchange of three pointers at both ends of the court left Houston leading 27-23 by the end of the period.
Houston pushed their advantage to 49-39 in the second period but the Spurs came back and started slashing it down. The score was tied on 60 later in the period before Toney Douglas made a buzzer beating jumper to leave the Rockets
trailing 63-64 at halftime.
The same trend continued in the third period with no one piling up a big lead. Houston however managed to convert their single point deficit at the half into a 93-91 lead. They were looking sharp and pushed their lead to 100-93
early in the fourth period, but then Lin was called out by Kevin McHale and a 7-0 spurt by the Spurs tied the game on 107. Ginobili fired a three pointer to put the Spurs up 120-118 seconds before the regulation but Asik scored a deuce to tie the score and
take the game into overtime.
It was all Spurs in the overtime as they raced to 124-120 early and a 6-0 run pushed their advantage to 130-122 with 2:03 left. San Antonio then closed the game comfortably.
