Tony Parker thinks Olympics bound U.S basketball team is beatable – NBA News
NBA star point guard and member of the formidable San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker is currently in France, as he prepares with his national team for the upcoming London Olympics.
Parker is by far the most decorated and accomplished player on the roster and the leader of the French team. Having played in the NBA alongside many of the stars that will be making the U.S team, Parker knows a thing or two about
them and is confident that they can be defeated.
The French national team, which lost 69-67 to Australia in their last warm up game on Monday, is scheduled to take on the United States this Sunday in the first match of their Olympic campaign and despite the fact that the U.S
team has won all five of its exhibition games, Parker feels that they are beatable.
“All teams can be beaten. They are not unbeatable. In competition anything can happen."
Parker feels so particularly this year when a big chunk of the U.S team probables missed out on the Olympics due to injuries. Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were all set to be named in the Olympic squad
but all were sidelined with injuries before the final roster was announced. In the absence of key players and the lack of size in the front court, Parker feels that the U.S team are relatively weak this time around.
Parker was glad to be a part of the French team after an injury nearly cost him the Olympics. He was present in a New York City night club last month when a brawl broke out between the entourages of Rapper Drake and R&B artist
Chris Brown. In the fight that ensued, glass bottles were hurled around in the club and one such bottle landed on the face of Parker, injuring his eye.
He has since undergone medical tests and different doctors, including the ones from Spurs, have cleared him for competition, However, Parker will be wearing protective eyewear throughout the tournament to prevent any further damage
to his eye.
"I will wear them throughout the competition. I have to do that and make sure I adapt, but it won't be easy," said Parker.
Parker added that he is excited about playing against the United States on Sunday, and looks forward to the challenge.
"It's always special to play against the Americans. They are the favourites and will be going out to play at their maximum. It'll be a good match for us to start the Olympics”.
