Tony Parker wants more trophies before hanging his boots – NBA Update
San Antonio Spurs super star Frenchman Tony Parker has sent out a warning to the rest of the NBA; he isn’t done yet.
The multiple time NBA World Champion says he still wants more silverware and will be out looking for it whenever the NBA season begins.
The Spurs star caused controversy in the summer when he said that it was perhaps too late for his aging team to be a championship contender anymore. The Spurs had the best record in the NBA for most of the season but crashed out
in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of a young and hungry Memphis Grizzlies side.
Tony though soon retracted his statement and now seems determined to get his hand on more trophies.
“I play basketball to win titles.” Said the point guard who has been a major stay for San Antonio for most of the last decade, when they won three NBA World Championships.
“Despite my age and all the trophies I've won, I'm hungry for more success. I'm not a guy who sits down at the age of 29 or 30 to retire and rest on his laurels. I want to get the very best possible and win as many titles as possible.
I can rest after my career.”
His comments now seem more attuned to the official line coming out of San Antonio, where Parker is the youngest of a core of three super stars. The other two, Manu Ginobili and the fantastic Tim Duncan, are around 35 years of age
each.
Parker also gave an insight into his future; management. The player has never really hidden his desire to become an executive and confirmed it once again to Yahoo!
“After my playing career I will go into management. The goal is to lead a club.” He said.
He currently part-owns a club in his native country of France called Asvel-Villeurbanne. As the NBA is still defunct because of the labour dispute, Parker is in France where he plays for, and handles executive duties of his club.
“I have to stay in shape on the one hand, and deliver my athletic performance. On the other hand, I care but also many projects that relate to the team, such as the new arena.” He revealed.
It is pertinent to note that in his interview Tony never mentioned where he would be looking to get more trophies at. When the controversy over his remarks erupted it was believed that the management at San Antonio became very
upset with Parker. The head coach wasn’t pleased at all and let the media know about it.
Since then it has been rumoured that San Antonio could look to trade Parker in order to fuel a rebuilding process at the franchise.
