Stoke City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis let out his delight over Carlo Nash’s decision to extend his stay at the Britannia Stadium, after the understudy goalkeeper penned a new one-year deal with the Potters.
The 38-year old saw his contract run out at the end of last season, but decided to stretch his stay at Stoke, despite failing to making a single appearance in the previous term.
Currently, the English footballer has got a third choice status in Pulis’ unit behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Sørensen-c34994.
Nash opted to move to the Britannia Stadium in July 2010, after experiencing a disappointing spell at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019. During his two year stint at Goodison Park, the player failed to represent the Toffees in a single league game.
His sporadic career also saw him play for Wigan Athletic, Preston North End, Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough. All in all, he has featured for 11 different clubs.
Nevertheless, Nash’s decision of signing an extension with the Potters was welcomed by manager Tony Pulis, who believed that keeping in view the demanding nature of the Premier League, he needs to have a strong back up in the squad.
While talking to reporters, he said: “It is important for us to have three top goalkeepers in the squad at this level and we are as strong in that department as any Premier League club.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 player also admitted that given the player’s old age and his limited playing time on the field, it would have been understandable if he made a decision to leave Stoke, but let out his contentment to know that he will be by his side in this
coming season.
“At this stage of his career, it was only natural that Carlo wanted to explore the possibility of playing first team football elsewhere when his contract expired at the end of last season.”
All in all, the 38-year old has made 276 club appearances during his career. He was last seen in action during the Potters Carling Cup match against Shrewsbury Town on the 24th of August 2010, which they won 2-1.
