Tony Romo may return for Week 16
If the Dallas Cowboys continue to win under new head coach, Jason Garrett, the team may consider putting quarterback Tony Romo back on the field once he’s completely healed from a broken left clavicle.
The Cowboys have not had the season they were hoping for, now 3-7, but after firing their former head coach, Wade Phillips, the team is having a resurgence under Garrett. They’ve won two games in a row and Romo has been working diligently to recover from
his injury as quickly as possible.
“He’s in early,” said Garrett. “He’s in that training room at 7am every morning. And he’s in our meetings. Once we go out on the practice field they have a whole regimen for him to go through some different rehab stuff. He’s very much involved. The ideas
keep coming, and he’s engaged with our football team.”
Should the Cowboys be eliminated from play-off contention by the time he’s ready to return, the speculation is that they would shut Romo down for the season, but if the team is still in the hunt they would be obliged to start Romo.
For the Cowboys to be in a position to make the play-offs they’ll have to win most, if not all, of their remaining games. That’s a tall order for a team that has the Super Bowl Champion Saints, the Indianapolis Colts, and two games against Michael Vick and
the Philadelphia Eagles left on their schedule.
Veteran quarterback, Jon Kitna, has done a good job replacing Romo. He is 2-1 as a starter and has a quarterback rating of 100.9 this season. If the team does manage to win their next four games it will be because of Kitna. It would also mean that he would
have a 6-1 record as the team’s starter compared to Romo’s 1-6 record.
Romo is the quarterback in Dallas, but if Kitna gets hot and puts Dallas in a position to get into the play-offs, he should remain the starter over a player that missed the two previous months with an injury.
