Tony Romo out six to eight weeks with fractured clavicle
According to team owner Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Tony Romo could be out of the lineup for six to eight weeks with a fractured left clavicle.
Romo was crushed by New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley in the second quarter of the Cowboys' 41-35 home loss to the Giants.
"The guard didn't see me," Boley said. "I came in scot-free. ...
"When he (Romo) hit the ground, I heard him let out a little scream. I knew something was up, but I didn't think he was going to lay down. I thought it was a normal hit. After I got up and started running, I looked back and saw he was down."
Since replacing Drew Bledsoe as the Cowboys' starting quarterback back in October of 2006, Romo has missed just three games and has thrown every pass for the Cowboys since 16 November, 2008.
"It'll be tough," Romo said. "The train keeps going on. The games are going to be played."
"It's a shame," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "Tony looked like he was really sharp."
Jon Kitna took over for Romo at quarterback when Romo was forced to leave the field, with the game at 10-7 in favor of the Cowboys. Kitna's numbers were good as he threw for 187 yards and two touchdown passes, but the Cowboys lost the game.
The loss of Romo is another huge blow to a 1-5 Dallas Cowboys team that is quickly seeing its play-off hopes evaporate.
Although the presence of Tony Romo will be missed, Cowboys receiver Roy Williams told the
Dallas Morning News that Kitna is just as good as Romo.
"Tony is our starter, but Jon is just as good. We are going to work this week in practice so we can get the timing down with the receivers. But I have complete faith in him."
