Tony Romo seals 27-24 victory for Cowboys against Redskins in Week 11 – NFL Recap
The heroics of quarterback Tony Romo, especially in the fourth quarter, took the game away from Washington Redskins as they were defeated by Dallas Cowboys 27-24 in overtime at the FedEx Field in the week 11 clash of the National
Football League current season.
The top passer of the game, Romo, found the intended receivers of his throws to complete 23 of 37 passes for 292 yards. He also scored three touchdowns and was unarguably the key difference between the two sides.
“He makes it look easy," Cowboys’ tight end Jason Witten said about Romo. "I think it starts with his ability to see it before the snap, and he has a great awareness about him and an ability to make those type of throws. He's done
it for a long time.”
Although Redskins gave a tough time to their National Football Conference East division rivals, they could not prevent sixth consecutive defeat that has placed them at the bottom of the division table.
The game started well for Cowboys. They grabbed an early lead in the first quarter when Romo threw a 22-yard pass to wide receiver Dez Bryant who scored to put his team in front. A 37-yard field goal from kicker Dan Bailey in the
second quarter increased the Cowboys’ lead to 10-0.
Redskins came back sharply and dominated the rest of the second quarter. Rex Grossman finished a four-yard run to score a touchdown, which was followed by his pass to Jabar Gaffney who managed a touchdown right at the end of the
quarter and gave Redskins an edge over the opponents 14-10.
A 40-yard field goal in the third quarter by Graham Gano pushed the Redskin’s lead to 17-10.
Redskins could not carry on with the momentum they had gained earlier and lost their domination in the fourth quarter. A seven-yard pass from Romo to Laurent Robinson levelled the scores. Soon after that, Romo shined again and
threw a 59-yard pass to Jason Witten who scored the team’s second touchdowns of the quarter to gain a lead 24-17. An equalizer from Donte Stallworth from Grossman’s pass in the last minute of the quarter took the game to overtime.
A 39-yard field goal by Dan Bailey sent Redskins packing and gave Cowboys their third straight win.
The result of the game could have been much more different had Redskins not lost their hold of the game in the last quarter. Jabar Gaffney was disappointed over the loss and admitted that Redskins gave the game away.
“It's not one of those games where we just got beat down," he said. "We gave it away. We gave that one away. We've got to learn how to win again.”
With six victories in ten games, Cowboys are now placed at the second spot in the NFC East division.
