Tony Stewart appreciates Carl Edwards’ contention during the Sprint Cup chase – NASCAR news
Stewart-Haas Racing driver Tony Stewart admires the challenging spirit of Carl Edwards during the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup chase.
The car no. 14 Chevrolet driver also reckons that Edwards will be able to win the NASCAR Cup title as he has shown his potential in the challenge.
Stewart said, “When we were coming around with the flag sticking out of the car, he walked up and he said you're going to have fun with this for the rest of your life. You couldn't ask for a better guy. And he goes, 'I hope a year from now, we are in the
same battle again just like this.”
Edwards and Stewart have been wrangling for many weeks and the battle continued on the track and as well in exchange of words.
However, Stewart recognised Edwards’ fairness in the championship. SH Racing driver grabbed the lead after 36-race season after putting his maximum effort in the battle.
Stewart added, “And that - everybody respects Carl for the person that he is, and you know, there's been a lot of things that have happened that make you go, is there sincerity involved in what he says. But there are no cameras there when he said that.”
Following the issues Edwards came to Stewart and talked face to face, which he admired a lot.
The car no. 14 driver expressed that he knows that some time Edwards has failed to do his best in the races but he accepted the fact and took all the blame for the loss.
Including rough times at Texas while having a tough conversation, Stewart feels that he is a strong person and has the fairness to win the cup title.
Edwards has the spirit and potential to take the top seat in the championship. He may be losing on the go but when he gets it, he takes no chance.
Stewart also revealed that after winning the final race, he met Edwards and he was graceful to accept the fact of losing the title.
Though he led six weeks out of ten in the chase but Stewart took the title win with five wins in the play off.
