Tony Stewart interested to sign Danica Patrick as full-time racer for NASCAR – NASCAR news
Tony Stewart, owner of Stewart-Haas Racing has shown interest in signing Danica Patrick if she moves to NASCAR as a full time racer.
Stewart has also declared that he is only interested to sign her as a full time Sprint Cup Series driver for Stewart-Haas Racing. The SHR does not feature in the Nationwide Series races. During a presence at sponsor’s Tech Services stores of Office Depot
he revealed his interest in the new driver coming back to NASCAR.
Stewart said, “Anybody that's got a Cup team that would have the availability would jump at the chance to do something with her. You would be crazy not to entertain an offer like that and an opportunity for her to drive a race car for you.”
Danica Patrick is currently participating in the Nationwide Series races on a limited race schedule under the belt of JR Motorsports for a consecutive second season. With the upcoming end to her IndyCar contract with Andretti Autosport, she has an option
whether to stay in IndyCar Series or make a move to NASCAR for the 2012 season.
However, Patrick is still not sure what to do. She said, “I suppose anything is possible. I know for me, I haven't made any of those decisions yet.”
Stewart-Haas Racing features two cars in the field of Sprint Cup Series races. One is driven by himself and the other is piloted by Ryan Newman’s no. 39 Chevrolet. However, he now plans to field four cars- the maximum limit NASCAR allows. Stewart says he
has not yet spoken to Danica Patrick about the deal but there is a possibility that his manager has been contacted in this regard.
The question about Danica Patrick’s interest in NASCAR premier class was not answered by Stewart. Patrick’s highest finish from 17 starts is 4th in Las Vegas in March 2011. She has participated in four races of the Nationwide Series and has eight
more to go.
