Tony Stewart looking forward to Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire – NASCAR news
It was just over a week ago that Tony Stewart was complaining about things left, right and centre. He was complaining about himself, the car, the team and even claimed that they are ‘wasting’ a top 12 spot in the Chase Cup.
He had a good reason to complain. Stewart had not managed to win a single race and had just three top 5 finishes- his lowest return in any of the seasons he had driven so far.
But as he has done in every season since he started driving in the Sprint Cup, Stewart managed to win a race. The Geico 400 at Chicagoland came at the perfect time for him and his fortunes seemed to have turned.
A much happy Stewart said that the win does not change much as he will be following the same philosophy as he always had. He just wants to focus on finishing in the best position possible and accumulate as much points as he can.
While he was not pleased with the lack of sportsmanship being observed in the game, he said it was only natural since the drivers who are not in the running for the Chase Cup are still looking to impress their sponsors and there is bound to be aggressiveness
in their driving.
Regarding New Hampshire, Stewart described the track as a ‘challenge.’ He also said he liked the track because he has had a lot of success there in recent years and although it is a tough track to pass other opponents, it was still a fun track if one can
maintain a good track position.
Stewart also looked back to the 2010 race at New Hampshire. He was out in front with a lap to go but ran out of fuel and Clint Bowyer managed to take the victory, with Stewart dropping all the way down to 24th.
“I wasn’t happy, that’s for sure, but we went down swinging. It’s hard to lose one that way, but at the same time, it was fun racing Clint like that. He did a good job of saving fuel and I didn’t do a good job,” said Stewart. ” It was a tough way to start
the Chase, that’s for sure. I would’ve settled for second.”
With just seven points between him and leader Kevin Harvick, another good finish at his favourite track could take Stewart to the top of the points table.
