Tony Tchani’s red card for celebration results in Toronto FC draw with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Columbus-Crew-c38850
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dwayne-De-Rosario-c11765. The game against Columbus Crew on April 23 was his fifth game. However, Tchani’s celebrations cost
his team two points at home.
The player scored his first TFC goal in the 41st minute and ran to the crow immediately afterwards. However, referee David Gantar did not like player mingling in with the spectators. The player was given his second yellow card of the match for
excessive celebrations and Tchani had to leave the field, leaving his team down to ten men. Tchani had received his first booking in the 37th minutes for allegedly pushing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Burns-c20709.
“On the first yellow card, it wasn’t me," Tchani said. "I didn’t push the guy, it was my teammate. I didn’t want to snitch on my teammate, but it was my teammate who pushed the guy. Then the ref called me and gave me the yellow card, I was shocked. Then
on the second one, I was like, ‘what’s going on?' Then he gives me the red.”
The Cameroonian is not the first player to have celebrated with the fans. Vancouver Whitecaps’ Erik Hassli did the same a couple of weeks earlier. However, Hassli had his shirt on, unlike Tchani, when he was busy screaming with the fans.
Tchani’s joys came costly to the hosts as eight minutes later, the Crew knocked home the equalizer to stay in the game and steal two points from the Reds. “It was stupid because he had his first yellow card, and you know that when you leave the pitch to
jump in the crowd you are going to get your second yellow,” head coach Aron Winter said.
However, the gullible disagreed with the referee’s decision. “Winter was mad. he thought it was stupid, but I didn’t think it was stupid because I have seen games before that players go into the crowd all the time,” Tchani said. “I thought that for my first
goal I had to give that to the fans.”
However, the home team deserves some credit as they stood firm with a man down and salvaged a draw. Even though they were unable to score a winner, to keep the opposition at bay was still an achievement for Aron Winter’s boys.
TFC now drop down to 7th position in the points table. Their next game is against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seattle-Sounders-FC-c40474 at Qwest Stadium on April 30, which Tchani will be missing due to suspension. The upcoming weeks are bound to be hard for Winter’s team, who
should avoid foolish costly mistakes or they would find themselves losing the momentum.
