Tony Thompson scores 5th consecutive knockout win against Maurice Harris – Boxing news
The American professional heavyweight boxer Tony Thompson beat Maurice Harris on May 28, 2011 at the Reno Events Center in United States.
Thompson won another technical knockout in his growing career. The time was 1:51 when the referee Vic Drakulich stopped the fight in favour of Thompson.
Herb Santos, Burt Clemons and Richard Ocasio were appointed as judges by the International Boxing Federation. Both the Heavyweights come into the ring in an Elimination Title Bout.
Thompson at the age of 39 performed his level best sticking to his fight plan. He tried to dominate the fight from the very beginning and then Harris looked puzzled to cope up with immense pressure that he could not sustain until the end. Thompson fans will
be very happy and satisfied with this performance. He did not allow Harris to stand permanently on to his feet. He put down Harris in the second round as to win his first knockout of the fight.
Then again for the second time in the third round Harris went down to his knees to give Thompson another gift of knockout round. Afterwards, Thompson won the countdown and was declared as the winner of the bout.
Thompson has been extraordinary performer since his first knockout loss. He managed five good fights against the world’s best fighters.
Thompson with this win has now improved his record. He has won 36 fights out of a total of 38 during his career.
Thompson spoke to the press after winning against Harris. He said, “He was wobbling, but he is a veteran. He’s been knocked out before and he’s survived before, I knew if I landed anything significant, the referee was going to jump in. To his credit, he
landed some bombs. That’s the worst fighter you can face sometimes, a guy who’s just winging. He’s going to try to catch me first.”
Harris has faced Thompson before that in 2002. However, this time Harris looked improved and even stronger.
Harris has fought 42 fights in total of which he won 24 competitive bouts against the big names including 10 knockout wins with 15 notable losses and 2 draws in his career.
Hopefully, the victory will open the doors of many big and worthy fights for Thompson in future.
