  1. Lopez was the 130 lb IBF champ when Pernell was the 135 IBF champ, and the dude wanted nothing to do with Whitaker for a reason.  He was like Joe Calzaghe, fighting safe opponents in his hometown.  He finally stepped in against Chavez and we all saw what happened against a top fighter.

  2. Whitaker ?

  3. dude those are old *** boxers, i doubt most people on Yahoo answers know who they are. but i say Whitaker

  4. Lopez was an aggressive hard punching fighter.  Sweet Pea Whitaker was a very clever boxer with extraordinary defensive skills, so it was almost impossible to hit him with a clean shot.  I believe that Whitaker is just too skilled a fighter for Lopez and wins a realtively easy unanimous decision.

  5. This would be an easy fight for Whitaker.  Lopez was an exciting fighter, like Arturo Gatti.  He had one other thing in common with Gatti.  He could not beat Top Echelon fighters.

Tony was rugged.  He would try to rough Pernell up.  However, Pernell would actually be able to match him in strength.  Pernell could be quite bold if he knew you couldn't hurt him.  He would not do as much running against Tony as he has against other opponents.

Whitaker didn't actually run much.  He didn't have to.  He could stand in front of you and make you miss.  He mastered this even better than Wilfred Benitez did.  Look at his fight with Oscar De La Hoya and see how he made Oscar miss 7-8 punch combinations.

Whitaker would do a little clowning but he would win nearly every round.  He would try for a KO once he realzied Lopez couldn't hurt him.  One thing Lopez could do is take a punch, as Pernell would discover.

Whitaker W15 .............by a wide margin.
