Too big of a capacitor?

So I am getting a 1700w rms system at 2 ohms 4 gauge wire, what if any effects would a 8 farad cap have on this? I know what caps do I just like the way this 8 farad one looks so should I just get a 2 farad or will it not matter?

Money's not the issue

P.S. Don't wanna hear about replacing alternator or the big 3.....Done some research

  1. eather one should be fine but are you sure it is an 8 farad cap not a .8 cap never seen one that big. a cap is basically and extra battery for when you system hits a power peak for extra power when needed

  2. if you have done research and used credidable sources, and have a good understanding of 12v electronics, then i will assume that you have already upgraded your big 3 and alternator. without it, the cap will do little to nothing.

i personally don't believe in using caps and see them as a waste of $$ that could be used to upgrade other areas of the electrical system that would be better in the long run. i would just like to make sure your on the right track and that  your research didn't mislead you.

since you have a hifionics amp, i would really go with 2g power wiring minimum. hifonics are extremely power hungry amps. also, if it says 1700rms, you will get about 1500 rms and lucky to hit 1700. hifonics power specs are over rated.

  3. he's never seen one that big?! haha nice. they go much bigger than that. but yea it wont matter if you put that 8 farad on that system. for a minimal farad when looking for caps look at .5 farad for every 500 rms you have. so yea for you a 2 farad would work fine. but if you want that 8 do it. it wont help anymore than a 2 though. and 4 guage wire isnt going to be big enough for a 1700 rms system. you prob need to get a bigger power wire. if not you'll be blowing fuses like crazy. if its 1700 watts max you'll be fine
