  1. Hello,

It's never too late to start anything, unless you're a senior our something. I started when I was 11, which is considered "old" but I'm in Freestyle 7 now, somewhat ahead of my game. All the kids were older than me in my classes, but I didn't let that stop me. Don't let self-conciousness get between you and your goal.

Practice Practice Practice. Let's face it:

BIG TRUTH: IF YOU DON'T PRACTICE, YOU WON'T GET MUCH BETTER.

As long as you practice, you will succeed in nearly everything.

I believe older kids have the advantage. Older kids can grasp ideas a lot faster and clearer than little kids at say, age 3 or 4. Even though I was the oldest in my Pre-Alpha class, I was better than the rest of the 5 year olds.

For training off ice, I would practice your "moves" on stone floor, and wear fuzzy socks. It may look silly and feel strange, but it helps. (That's for when you're more advanced.) It's kind of hard to train off ice, but some synchronized skating teams practice on cement, I'm sure you could do the same solo. Unless you live in an area that snows in winter, you could have a backyard ice rink installed, but it's really expensive. If you're interested and have a large backyard here is the name:

    Nice Rink

Call for Free Catolog: 888-NiceRink (leave off the K) www.nicerink.com

Fax: 262-279-6744 218 South Rad, Genoa City, WI 53128

*Ultra strong super whit nice rink liners

Patented NiceRink Bracket sideboard suppor system

Super smooth ice with our NiceIce Resurfacer plus many more rink building and trainig accessories.

But that's kind of a stretch

I would start in Pre Alpha, but if you post another question about that, I'll answer it!

    Hope This Helps!

    Always,

  2. Is it too late to do what? You never stop learning in life so go for it! I started when i was 15 and now iam working on my programme after 6 months of skating lessons so your deffinatly not too old.

To train of ice gymnastics is a great help or ballet. Evn just streaching at home can help.

No your not old to start, even 50 year olds start figure skating so go for it!

  3. It's never too late to take up figure skating.

  4. No! you are not too old. Since you can skate, I would start up and skip the tots. The skating instructors may move you up levels if you can do all of the skills. Since you are older, you have an advantage of the strength and speed and flexibility needed for all of the jumps, spins, footwork, etc.

    Hope I helped =)

  6. Hi,

I was 11 when I started, last September, and I am now working on my loop and my flip (both full rotation jumps). It is NOT to late for you to start, if you really work hard.

There is something called "off-ice", this will help you with flex ability and balance, for when you are on the ice. Most clubs have it (at least in Canada).

I landed my waltz jump in about 2 months, and I couldn't skate at all. And I could also do a full speed scratch spin by then, with correct entry.

But I do have a few words of advice:

    1) when buying skated DO NOT BUY CHEEP SKATES, they will not allow you to get very far, the ankle support is bad, and the leather breaks down too quickly.

    2) don't push yourself too hard, you will only end up disappointing yourself.

3)Don't get a coach that is too strict!, you will regret it when you get better, they can get pretty nasty.

    4) I know it is obvious but, have fun!

    Good Luck! :)
