Question:

Too late to become a conservation officer?

I'm 50 years old and planning on retiring when I'm 60.

I'm an MD (Internal medicine) with a BS in biology.

I'm in excellent physical condition. Work out at least 45-60 minutes a day.

Is it possible for someone who is 60 years old going into Conservation. Like a forest ranger?

Is it too old? Do I need to return to school and get another degree?

  1. You can't become a forest ranger without attending police academy.  Forest rangers have full police powers and carry a gun.

There are many similar jobs without police powers, that do not require as much training.  However, I expect there will be tough competition from younger graduates.

  2. It is not too late. Several provinces are hiring as we speak. The only draw back to what you have is you do not have any law enforcment training. It would be best to go back and get some training in that field as it is needed.

It is possible for someone to be a CO up to the age of 60. Many agencies are starting to have physical tests to pass but if in good physical condition shouldn't have a problem with that.

    Hope that helps
