Viola Tricolor???
So I have a large juniper tree which looked really terrible underneath. I did some research, raked out the debris, put in another sprinkler head, amended the soil with compost.... and planted viola tricolor (johnny jump ups). Some areas did really well, they have flowered for weeks now and were planted from seed in April. Other areas got choked by weeds. So I have patchy purple and yellow flowers under the tree now. I have since used Roundup on the weeds and pulled the weeds growing close to the existing violas.
My question is.... is it too late to put down another round of viola seed in the bare areas? Considering how fast the first "crop" grew in there is plenty of time in my zone before first frost.... but as they are self seeding I think they would need to finish flowering this summer or I'm just wasting time and money, right?
