Too many fumbles: Tom Coughlin won't start Ahmad Bradshaw Sunday
Tom Coughlin, head coach of the New York Giants, has decided to start running back Brandon Jacobs over Ahmad Bradshaw in this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at New Meadowlands Stadium.
Bradshaw has fumbled the ball six times in 10 games so far this season, prompting the loss of his starting position. Five of his fumbles were recovered by the opposition.
"The number one consideration is to try to stop beating ourselves," Coughlin said. "That's one area we should be able to improve. It's very frustrating not to improve in that area."
In 185 carries this season, Bradshaw has 867 yards and five touchdowns. His backup, Jacobs, has 387 yards on 78 carries so far this season. The most carries he’s had in one game came back in Week 1 when
he had 12 carries for 44 yards in a 31-18 win against the Carolina Panthers.
"Brandon has been running the ball," Coughlin said. "It's basically been almost like a 2-to-1 deal. Both guys have gotten lots of carries."
Bradshaw should be able to regain his starting role if he can prove to Coughlin that he can hold onto the ball.
"He's going to fight his way through it," Coughlin said. "Why it would be a total surprise to anybody is beyond me."
The Jaguars have only forced nine fumbles this season, and they’re a good team for Bradshaw to start proving himself again with. He also plays for the team that’s forced the most fumbles in the League
with 24. A day spent with the Giants’ defence may do wonders for his fumbling problems.
The Giants, at 6-4, are currently not in a playoff spot, but they only trail the Philadelphia Eagles by one game in the NFC East. They trail in the wild card race by one game as well, but there are three
teams with 7-3 records, and they’ll have to beat two of them to earn one of the wild card spots.
