Too much ice

Question

We have a kenmore, older, but has a fairly new ice maker (whirlpool, I think) that won't stop making ice. There is a metal bar that will no longer rise with the level of the ice to turn itself off when full. When the bucket gets too full, we raise the bar manually to get the icemaker to stop making ice.
