Question:

Too much oil in engine. Safe to drive?

I have a 1992 chevy S-10 Blazer. I just bought it and found the oil level is over the safe line.

When it runs i see a white smoke out the exhaust, and i need to know if i should try and drain some of it out?

How can i partially drain my oil?

  1. check ur head gasket ... mostly white smoke is cause by burnt head gasket ..

  2. the white smoke is from the oil, probably not the head gasket. so eliminate the obvious and change the oil, it probably only takes 4 or 5 qts anyhow depending if its a 4 or 6 cylinder

  3. you have a cracked head gasket for one and 2 if its over a qt its not good for it

  4. dude once the oil level above the safe line its definetly not safe to drive

you r damagine your engines crucial parts which can cost you h**l of money much. its like you r drinking 2 liter water then running afterward basically you gotta take a leak to drain out some water. well however you can drain the oil out under the car. put the pan under the car or something where you can catch the oil after you lose the s***w dont take out the s***w just loose it up a bit that would do it fine.   after that it might eliminate the white smoke if it dosent then you got the headgasket blown up it gonna cost you alot try to give the car back to the owner you bought it from and get your money back.

  5. Unscrew the drain plug with a basin in place to catch the oil. leave the bolt blocking the drain hole so you can control how much comes out .Don't drop the bolt .When you've drained enough ,s***w it back in.

  6. it can produce smoke...but it can also aerate the oil and cause lubrication issues....buck up change the oil ...have it done for you it will be worth the minor cost.....don't drive it like it is...if the oil is brown and milky...its got a blown head gasket and antifreeze is getting into your crank case...if it smells like gas...it may have had engine issues and someone was cranking it over and over trying to get it to start...but get your oil changed before you damage your engine

  7. When was it changed last? Is it BLACK BLACK BLACK or dark brown.

Take some out with the dipstick and drop it onto newsprint.

If you can't read through it, it is too old. If ti spreads really qucikly and is thin, it is too old.

If it is really too dark, it may not have been changed recently and you still have hope. Because oil breaks down and will blow by the rings if the engine is not run regularly or if it is too old.

If there are high miles on the engine you may need to start running a heavier weight oil. Such as 10W-40 or 20W-50 to keep the blow by down. It won't cure it, it will just slow it down.

Drain the oil, and chage it and the filter, DO NOT USE 5W-30, the engine is too old. Use 10W-30.

If you have an external or additional oil cooler it may be blocked and the extra quart or two aren't circulating.

But first, go to a mechanic you trust, and ask him to run a "sniffer" probe in the antifreeze. It is not a cheap tool, but it "senses" exhaust gas, gasoline and oil residue in the anti-freeze, and can tell you definitely if you have a bad or leaking head gasket or cracked head short of removing the head.

You may be able to rent this tool form a parts store. Worth a call.

If there is exhaust gas residue, take it back to the guy you bought it from, if it is within the warranty period of your state, and ask him to fix it or give you your money back, or ask him to pay to have it fixed, then you can choose the mechanic.

  8. OOOHHH..sorry dude....but is sounds like you have a blown head gasket.

Your level is high because you are leaking coolant into the crankcase...check your coolant level as well...the white smoke is also sign you have blown a gasket.

Take it back and get your money if you can

    Good luck!
