  1. Yes, your fine, you lose potassium and iron, and your electrolytes are low in supply when exercising/sweating.  Powerade will help replace them and so you don't bonk!

I personally drink Eload or Ironade because I don't like the amount of sugar thats in powerade or gatorade.

  2. Make sure you don't just drink powerade, nothing can replace water. If you sweat a lot from doing a really hard workout then it is good because you get the salt back into your body as well as many other vital nutrients. That is if you are a serious runner. If you barely do anything then you probably don't need it. My coach has us dilute it by drinking as much water as powerade when we do drink it.

  3. I think you may find the below paragraph interesting. I found it at teen growth.com:

The so-called electrolyte replacement drinks contain electrolytes, sodium and potassium. But research has shown that only small amounts of electrolytes are lost during exercise, and these can easily be restored with a well-balanced diet. In addition, many sport drinks have a high concentration of sugar which will slow the absorption of water in the body. Remember if you insist on having Gatorade®, Powerade®, All-Sport®, etc., there is nothing in the medical literature that proves these products will make you perform any better than drinking plain water (if the team uses a sport drink, simply dilute with water until it's half-strength)*.

-Although sports drinks confer few benefits, they are frequently helpful for adults during extended strenuous exercise, such as running a marathon or five sets of aggressive tennis. In these situations, the added carbohydrate and sodium can prevent muscle fatigue and muscle cramps.

I think drinking sports drinks should only be done while working out and drinking it afterwards it should be watered down. But that is just my opinion. My athletes don't drink it and I have had a few state qualifiers.

  4. That is fine.  You need to replace electolytes and because they are longer workouts you need to replace your glycogen stores.  Drinking powerade without working out = empty calories similar to drinking koolaid.  Drinking after a good workout is good.

Eating something within 1/2 hour of working out will help decrease muscle soreness too.

  5. My aunt never had a cavity in her life, but she started doing marathons and drinking powerade and she ended up with 6 cavities! So I just suggest that you take super good care of your teeth after drinking powerade.

  6. As long as you're breaking a heavy sweat during each. My anatomy teacher said paople shouldn't drink gatorade just beacause, like they haven't done any exercise, because it can give you kidney stones...something like too much electrohydrates in the body.....I think you're fine though.
