Question:

Too much toe hang on my snowboard?

I have a 254 width with large bindings and size 11 boots. I was told that this width is the correct size for my boot size but my toes hang over the edge about 1.7 inches. I have changed my binding angles and tried to reduce the length of hang but it makes my stance uncomfortable. I've done measurements to see how much of a slope I will be able to board without my toes interfering and it is about a 60 percent of an angle I will have to be going in order for my toes to get in the way. Here are some pictures to give you an idea, (the angle of the camera is a little off but both toe measurements are 1.7 in) :

  1. The best solution would be to buy a wide board. The more economical solution would be to buy Palmer lifter plates. I believe they run about $100, but they're cheaper than a new board.

  2. obviously this is to much toe drag but i am not going to tell you to get a new board like everyone else (althought you'd be better of ;) )

Here is what you can do to get away with what you got...as a intermediate fix:

i cant really see on the first pic but it seems not centered...

measure the outside of your boot (heel to toe) and take the center (middle) of it. Line it up with the center of your board...so you have equal overhang heel and toe...if this is what you have already have then I want you to set back the bindings on your heel-edge about 3/4 inch (or half your toe-drag). Usually you never can tilt as much heelside as you can toeside...now in order to compensate adjust your forward lean on your highback so you have quicker (or better said earlier) response on your heel-side but you gain 3/4 inch on your toe...now dont take this as i wrote it you have to play with it....BUT:

the more you have to slide your binders to your heelside the more you have to compensate with forward lean...now this isn't perfect but is all you got ;) hope this helps

  3. that is a lot of toe hanging over. you definitly need a wide board. as you probably know your toes catch and you eat snow, not fun.

  4. To add to the discussion above, Burton has lifters and so does Palmer - they aren't only for getting rid of toe drag, but also for adding bite to the edges.  They give a bit more leverage in the turns - good for carving, but maybe not so good for jumping since you ride just a tiny bit higher - makes for a little less room for error.  Anyway, not for everyone, but definitely better than having to pony up for a new board.

Or you could craigslist it, and parlay the cash into a wider board.

Are you sure that your board measures 25.4 across at the waist?  I ride with size 11 Forum boots, and my Burton Royale (midwide) 162 works nicely with no toe / heel drag (it's 25.6 cm at the middle), and a lot of pop.  Those 2 millimeters definitely do not translate to almost two inches!  Good luck...

  5. PLEASE respect the sport.  Buy a wide board so that you can surf the frozen ocean without the wrecks.

  6. yeah you kinda nead a wider board it may effect you when carving just be carefull you could really take a good fall

  7. You NEED a wide.

  8. yeah that's way too much overhang...
