Question:

Too old for Bed Wetting?

My little sister is 12 and she still wets the bed on her sleep on almost a daily basis. Im really concern not because since she is getting older she will be having school trips, and sleep overs, and im afraid of what may happen once he secret gets out. My mom has tried waking her up in the middle of the night to have her use the bathroom and that sometimes work, but that didn't provide a constant or permanent solution. The doctor simply recommended that she didnt drink before going to bed, but that had little effect as well.

Out of what normal kids do the only thing she does is that she goes to bed late often, specially now with the summer, but even making her go to bed early didn't help.

If you have had experience with this problem, be it yourself or someone you knew, please give me some tips as to what helped

thanks

  1. Have the doctor check and make sure she doesn't have Type 1 Diabetes.  This can be a symptom.

  2. My brother had the same problem when he was growing up, found out that he had a weak bladder, so it could be that or she could just be lazy and a sound sleeper.  I know they used to have a device going back 10 years or so that it hooks up to your underwear and when it feels a little moisture it starts beeping ( not sure if you can still get them)  The other option is wearing dri nites, if going to the toilet before going to bed doesn't help than the other option is wearing a nappie... That was the only was he got out of wetting the bed

  3. I was in this situation, i wet the bad until i was about 13. Not on purpose, my parents tried everything even smacking me when i was younger because they thought i was purposely doing it and being lazy....... That wasn't the case at all.

At about 8 or 9 my parents took me to see the GP. We had seen him several times before this and hejust kept saying, stop drinks before bed etc ( all the usual s*it!!). He reffered me to a specialist and it was confirmed that i had weak bladder walls so i was prescribed a nasal spray to cure it and after about 6 months of using that it stopped completely!!

Please do not judge her or bully her, she genuinley might not be able to help it, i mean who WANTS to wet the bed at 13 or whatever??? No-one. So if she's still doing it there's a problem. She needs to see the doctor .

  4. Your mom needs to buy her some Good Nights that look like underwear, but she also needs to make an appointment for the doctor; she should ask for a second opinion.  She is way too old and there has to be something other than limiting her fluids before bed.

  5. s### thats bad kis are kids

  6. my friend had the same problem, its probably due to stress or maybe her body is changing and she will definitely grow out of it. my friend did it until he was around 15 because his family situation wasnt that great and he had problems in school. they make plastic sheets you can get until she grows out of it that cover the bed under her regular sheets

  7. I had the same problem while I was growing up. It turned out I had major bladder problems which required surgery. I had constant bladder infections.

I'm not saying this is what your sister has but this is my experience. You can buy the good nights that look like shorts if she goes for sleep overs or what not.

  8. Try not giving her drinks 3 hours before she sleeps...
