Question:

Too old to be creative?

Hello, I'm 17 years old. I was hoping to get some opinions. Am I too old to start becoming more creative and expressive? In the form of writing, drawing, ect. It seems to me like all the famous writers and artists started at a young age, were apprentices, whatever. Am I too old to pursuit drawing and writing? Will I be lacking skill I cannot make up? Thank you so much for reading and answering,

Ryan

  1. my goodness! 17 is a great age! studies show that creativity starts to diminish in your thirties as you start relying more on experience. So get those coloured pencils, paints and pens out and start expressing and have fun :)

  2. It's never too late to learn! in fact, your age is just as young and fresh as you are. I've heard of people as old as 50's who just graduated highschool, middle aged peolple who tries new things everyday for the betterment of themselves. See? as long as theres life, the learning continues... So, pursue drawing and writing and slowly, you'll learn the skills and techniques with out even noticing it. Get inspired and don't limit yourself because of your age or just because you think you're too old to learn. Explore, discover life and you'll see how wonderful it is to be learning everyday of your life. Goodluck!!!

  3. You are never too old to allow the creative juices to flow.  17 is a delicious time to let the creative energy take off because it can go in so many directions.

I was 10 years old when I started writing as a hobby, and even now at 30 it continues to be one of my greatest joys.  For me, writing has always been the perfect retreat - where I could be anyone that I wanted and completely control my own destiny.

If you wake up in the morning and all you can think about is writing - then you are a writer.  You don't need anything more to prove it.  Just do it!

  4. Man 17 years is just the beginning, I am 50 and  have just started to appreciate or finally find a style I can call mine!! we are all unique individuals, keep on pursuing you goal of writing and being creative, don't look aside at who is running the race with you or ahead of you! yours is a different focus in the same direction as the others, you will get there if you are true to yourself, be patient and determined!

  5. Its never too late for anything...
