Question:

Too old to learn to surf?

I've lived in cold English city all my life but I don't feel at home here, I belong by the sea. All I need in life a bit of sunshine and the sea and I know I'll be happy.

I really want to learn to surf because I think it looks amazing. But I'm 18. I'm a reasonable swimmer, not GREAT, and I'm really small/light. Could I learn? How long do you think it would take? Would anyone actually take me seriously?

Also, does anyone know of any programs life surf camps or something - because this summer I have the freedom to travel.

  2. From the sounds of it you know nothing about surfing... and ur probably not gonna be any good or ever be very good. Go get urself an 8 foot foam board, go to newquay and ride the white water in. Maybe some day u can surf an unbroken wave but i doubt it will be a fast progression for you. Truth hurts sometimes

  3. 18 is definitely not too old, and I think people will take you seriously as long as your serious about it and not just doing it to pick up guys.  I'm sure there are plenty of summer surf programs or lessons out there; maybe you could try the yellow pages or something.

  4. YOUR NEVER TOO OLD!!

i know people who surf at like 60

I live by the beach so i see all sorts of people learning to surf

theres plenty of people who learn at like even 30 or 40 !!!!

    I think you should learn!!!

But only do it if your having fun. Cause ive lived by the beach like my whole life and know how to surf and im a total beach bum but i just dont like surfing so only do it if you like it not just to get the label as a "SURFER". cause any real surfer can tell a poser.

  5. Your age is fine for learning.  I would guess about 1/4 of the students at my surf school this past summer were around your age and they were mostly girls.  I don't know of any schools near you but you could contact the British Surfing Association through the internet and get info about their school.  I do know there are a number of surf schools on the coast of France.

  6. h**l ya you can learn to surf at 18 like  the other people said if you have 2 legs and you can stand up you can learn to surf. i mean you might have a lil bit of a hard time but you can do it. just rember practice makes perfect don't give up. just keep on going surfing is probley the best sport around. have fun and rember do it for you self and for no one else. aloha

  7. my mom is 51 and is taking surf lessons. she loves it. just go and try it!

  8. I dont think your ever to old to learn something new =D

try this : they even have adult classes http://www.wbsurfcamp.com/

  9. so long as your able to stand up on 2 legs, your never too old to learn how to surf..... maybe you wont get onto big waves but smaller waves are just as much fun !

take some lessons from a reputable person, word of mouth works or go to a surf shop and they'll tell you who to call for a teacher....... you will be able to stand up on your board the first day of lessons !

    Enjoy !

  10. I didn't start surfing until my 30s, so you are definitely not too old.

Check these guys out. http://www.purevacations.com/surf/  I've been looking into them for some of their surf camps.  They have ones with instructors also, and seem reasonable priced.
