Question:

Too slow bathroom sink?

When I use the bathroom sink the water will take too long to go down the drain. So I am guessing that there is something wrong with the bathroom sink trap. So what are the steps to check if there is anything clogging on the sink trap?

  1. try this first if there is a drain stopper pull it out and remove all the hair from it that is the biggest cause of slow drains,  you may need to remove the lever that comes out the back if the down tube

  2. Ive had  this  happen several  times. Dip  as  much  out  you can.  Under  sink is  the  U  shape pipe.  Place  a  bucket  directly under  this  pipe. Dip out  as  much you  can.  Using  your  hand  or  a  wrench   disconnect  pipe.  Usually the  clog is in this  area.  Check and  clean  this.  Also  check  pipe  leading  into  wall.  You can do this  with  a  bent  wire.  Sometimes  hair  clogs  with  soap  grime.  In  one  case  those  little  caps  on throwaway  shavers  were stuck in it. If  sink opening needs a  strainer they are  available in several sizes.  Re connect and  test  for  leak. I usually then pour  boiling  water in  to  flush.  Sometimes  you have to repeat.  I  have  also used  pure  bleach overnight then flush in morning.

  3. put clorox bleach in your sink, it will safely desolve hair or any kind of junk that is there, after it clears(won't take but a few min.)rinse throughly with cold water. It really works great!

  4. It is usually an easy fix to clear the drain.

The drain hole can be cleaned of gunk (nasty) by using something to push stuff down or pull stuff up.

The p-trap can be taken off and cleaned out.

Remember to place a trash can or bucket under the trap when you remove it to catch the water still in it.

I use a baby bottle brush or something like a coat hanger.

Only experienced people should attempt to use a drain snake.

Not only can they be dangerous, they can break your plumbing.

  5. buy a snake at lowes about fifteen bucks and snake out the drain
