Too small to play rugby?

I love the hardcore intensity of rugby, and I love to play sports. I played volleyball in highschool, and am lookinng to get involved in an intramural or club rugby at college next year.. When I visited their info booth at orientation this summer, they seemed pretty welcoming, and when I informed them of my semi-ignorance of the sport of rugby, they assured me that almost everyone who is on their team now had no prior rugby experience before college.

The thing is, I'm 5'5 and about 100 pounds..

.should i not even be considering playing?

or can i handle it if i put my game face on and go out there determined to kick some butt?

  1. The great thing about rugby is that there are positions for people of every size. Some players need to be big, but there are ample opportunities for small, quick players. If you look it up online, the faster players are called the "backs."

Also, not knowing anything about the sport shouldn't be a problem. Most of the people on my college team had never even seen a ball before they joined. Your team seems willing to teach you anything you'll need to know. Trust me, once you start playing, you'll understand how great rugby really is.
