Toomaline Jack a hot favourite to win the Grand National
Dolores Ruth’s beaten English Derby favourite Toomaline Jack returned to Wimbledon last week to compete in the williamhill.com Grand National. The Irish raider smashed the 480m track record for the National in heat three and is now a hot favourite to land the £7,500 winners prize.
Jack flew from trap six, jumped to perfection and raced to an eight-and-a-half length victory over Forest Tyson in 28.96sec.
His odds have been shortened to 1-2 by the odd compilers in the ante-post, and you can’t really argue after the performance he pulled off.
The closest time in the hurdle Classic came from Little Boy in the opening heat who clocked a time of 29.28sec.
Jack has raced on seven occasions at Wimbledon to-date and has only been defeated once, which was in the English Derby final, the rest has certainly done him good.
The dog is in excellent form and according to his trainer could go much quicker if he can brush up on his jumping of the high Wimbledon hurdles.
Ruth also confirmed that Jack will not be competing in this year’s €120,000 Ladbrokes Irish Derby, but says that there is a strong possibility that he will make a return to the flat in the Boylesports International at Dundalk on July 12th.
Will Jack go all the way? Or will he suffer the same misfortune as the English Derby final?
Judging his performance at Wimbledon, I believe he can go all the way.
