Tooth Ache... HELP!?!?

Last week I went and got some cavities filled... (it was my front 2 teeth) and my dentist kind of went out of the super numb area to work on a tooth, it was kind of numb but it hurt really bad... It is really sensitive and it hurts estremely bad... I am wondering if it will go away, or will it just keep hurting?

I have taken some tylenol and it relieved the pain... but now its to the point that I dont want to eat at all because it hurts way to bad... It hurts twice as bad with heat/cold but it hurts without hot and cold. It doesnt constantly hurt, its on and off... Is it normal to have pain after having a cavity filled?

  1. Try these things:

Cold compress to the outside of mouth

    Listerine(yellow) and Orajel mix

    hot shower

    warm compress

ANYTHING you try, note which ones help and where the pain is.  If these don't help, Go to the er.  Ask for a local, penicilin, and tylenol three.

THIS IS NOT REPLACEMENT FOR DENTAL CARE.

  2. What can happen is that the filling is a little higher than it used to be and when you close your mouth, it's kinda hitting it and causing more pressure on the nerves at the bottom of that tooth.  Usually if you go back, they will just take some of that blue contact paper and have you bite on it to see if there is any specific contact and smooth it down.  They shouldn't charge you.

Or, you might just be really sensitive to hot and cold (even breathing through your mouth can hurt) for a while and should go away any time now.

Either way, you should call your dentist and if they are halfway decent they will fit you in today or in the morning.

  3. A week is a long time to be in pain. And it sounds like the dentist did quite a bit of work. I would call their office and let them know what is happening. It is possible that a nerve was nicked or you have an infection.  Good luck.  Moth

  4. go to the dentist. they will help you.
