  1. You will feel the needle a little bit when it first goes in but it is nothing at all to be affraid of.  Your dentist will put the needle in a little bit to numb the feeling almost straight away.  It just feels like a little scratch at first and then nothing.  The numb sensation is strange and you will feel like your mouth has swollen up ten times but it hasn't it just feels really unusual.  When you put your hand up to your face to feel your lips, your hands can feel your lips but your lips can't feel your hand.  This feeling will go away after a few hours.  it is great and just like when you suck the helium out of a balloon and your voice goes all sqeeky and it feels strange that is the type of strange you will feel.

If you need a filling in your tooth then surely that must feel really uncomfortable.  YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT HONEST!!!!!!!!

I was at the dentist today.  I didn't have anything done today as I will be on holiday in a weeks time, but when I come back I will be having an old filling removed and replaced with a new one.  I am not worried at all.

Best wishes for tomorrow and don't worry.

    HOW DID YOU GET ON????????

  2. its a slight scratch and a cold sensation, just dont tense and think nice things.

When the anethetic gets working you wont feel anything- just the dentist moving around- no pain what so ever.

Pray you dentist aint putting a 'verichip' in your tooth.  Good luck

  3. well actually if they don't numb it it will hurt because there making a whole in tooth and it presses on your gums so it would hurt like crazy at some dentist they have gel that they put on your gum and its numbs it .. but if they do put a shot close your eyes and think of something you like but think it hard

ps:don't use a metal fork the first couple day it hurts

    good luck

  4. They numb you because they have to drill into your tooth. It's more uncomfortable and annoying than a serious agonizing pain. I think they also numb the spot where they intend on giving you the shot before they do.  Oh and I just had a weak spot in my tooth filled with no medication what so ever just because the dentist had extra time during my appointment and I survived.  It didn't feel great but it was ok. If you are really against needles maybe the dentist can give you the gas instead. Nothing to be afraid of though.

  5. Yes it hurts, they are drilling out your teeth.

But 15mins of medium pain compared to 1x large needle and 7hrs of a numb mouth and looking like ive had a stroke.

    Id rather take the pain.

  6. Hi Azil

Listen to Orange Evil and Freckles, they are spot on.

You will hardly feel the needle as it only goes in just below skin depth.  To me, it feels like somebody is scratching my gum with a toothpick.

I prefer to keep my eyes closed throughout because I hate needles too.

After a few minutes, your mouth will go numb, which is not an unpleasant feeling.  When your dentist starts to drill, trust me, you won't feel a thing.   I recently had root canal work and it was totally TOTALLY painless.  Honestly.  Scout's honour.

Believe me, you will be fine tomorrow.

  7. No they don't really hurt that much.

I guess that they make you numb because some peoples mouths are different.

I've had load of fillings on my baby teeth and luckily none on my adult teeth.

Don't lets your nerves get over you!!!!

    Good luck!!!!

  8. I advice you to take a deep breath and trust your dentist. This is the one of the most common procedure. The needle seems really long but the only reason its long is because it needs to reach parts of the mouth that are hard to reach. If you are relaxed this also makes it easier on your dentist and less painfully physically and mentally. Only a small portion of the needle goes into the outer layer of your gums, the dentist might shake the syringe while in your mouth but its only to let the anesthetic travel to the area being numbed. Before the actual anesthetic is applied with the syringe they will put topical anesthetic which numbs the gum which makes you not feel contact with the needle and the skin. Probably you feel feel cold, a pinch, and a huge mouth.

One of the reason they use anesthetic during cavity fillings is because cavities often make you feel sensitivity to hot/cold/touch things. You are going to have the little hole(cavity) cleaned out with a what seems like a drill (burr) if you didint have the anesthetic you will feel lots of sensitivity in the form of pain. This is also because your teeth have a nerve inside of them depending on how deep the cavity is, is how sensitive they are.

It shouldnt hurt after the procedure, it will probably feel strange at first but it should physically feel like if nothing ever happened! To prevent this from happening again I suggest you floss(ask your dentist to show you the propper ways) brush your teeth, and try to eat and maitain your mouth healthy. Dont take it for granted because it is for you painful/frighting/ and probably costly.

Just relax close your eyes think nice things and it will be over before you know it. The best type of relaxation is the anesthetic you feel absolutely nothing but since dental is only local anesthetic (applied only to the area being worked) you are awake at the same time which makes it weird.

If you are so terrified you can also try going to a sedative dentist. They put you under nitrous oxide (laughing gas) you are in between awake and not. almost like drunk. lol. dont fear it just remain relaxed. good luck!

  9. it won't hurt because they will numb your mouth beforehand.

  10. tooth fillings are a piece of cake. of course they will numb you because they need to drill your tooth to take out the decayed part. they put gel on your gum they're going to put the needle in. the gel is to numb a little so you cant feel them put the needle in. the only part that hurts is when the actual medicine goes in, but the pain last for about 2 seconds?. but after that, you wont feel anything at all! DON'T WORRY! :). i hope somebody would have told me this when i was little, cause i kept on crying for not feeling any pain at all. heh.

  11. no, just keep thinking by this time tomorow it will be all over... its better to get it done than have toothache, id rather give birth than have toothache x*x

  12. I have three fillings. The dentist uses a very thin needle to inject your gums with a numbing agent. You barely feel the prick because the injection doesn't go in very deeply at all. Just a little pressure and it's done. Your gums numb very quickly. The drilling doesn't hurt, nor does the cavity filling process. If you start to feel any pain during the procedure, tell the dentist and you'll receive another injection.

Trust me, it's not bad at all. I got three fillings done in under an hour and I didn't feel anything. The pain afterward wasn't even bad, just a little sensitive for a few days to a week.

  13. yes it hurts like h**l.

Thats why i dont have real teeth anymore.

  14. Ask the dentis if the injection is necessary.  If it is, put up with it and think of something pleasant.  It is easy when you try.

  15. i had a filling today and i agree i hate needles now
