Tooth and Gum really sore/swollen??

Question

earlier today my tooth on the bottom of my mouth was really sore, the bottom tooth in the middle and on the left of the middle one is the one thats sore. anyway, it was sore and a few hours later i was scanning through my mouth with my tongue and behind where the tooth is where the gum is is all swollen and sore. what is it?
