Tooth infected after dry socket help?

I had my tooth pulled a little over a week ago (bottom right molar) i had to go back about 3 days later from pain and puss constantly seeping, they told me i had dry socket and put the hairball looking stuff in the socket to help heal faster, the doctor said i would be feeling much better within the hour, well that didn't happen and a few days later i went back again where they flushed it out and put the medicated hairball in again, he made a comment saying hes never had someone come back again making me feel a little silly for coming back with the same problem, now its been about 5 days since my last visit and my mouth is feeling much better, ive been trying my hardest to ignore it and i finally took a look at it this morning, the whole seems smaller but i now have a bright white mass inside, its not hard (cause i first suspected it was a wisdom tooth coming in) but i don't want to go back to the dentist since I'm not in pain anymore just irritation here and there. There is not really a problem except my curiosity of what the heck is going on now!? so if anyone has had this happen or know what this thing is in my mouth i would greatly appreciate it. oh and also if i need to be doing anything special to make it go away:) Thank you for any help!

  1. I worked in a dental office, and a patient with a dry socket might need to return several times for treatment, it`s painful. Also try using warm salt water rinses.

  2. Hi,

The white thing you commented is the reunion of the bone Known as the alveolar bone after the pulling out of your tooth, that's normal, and gum will cover this portion soon. Don't Worry

  3. Any doctor who makes you feel silly for coming in because your worried isn't a very good doctor...Maybe he didn't mean it like that, but if you feel uncomfortable you should find another doctor. I would hate to think that you would not see your doctor because he makes you feel badly and then you get really sick because there really was something going on....Sorry, I hate doctors with bad bedside manners. Anyway, use warm salt water to gargle to help keep it clean, and if you can stand it, sucking on ice can numb the area enough to give you the relief you want. And you heard the good Doc tell ya it was the bone reconnecting, you're OK!!!!!
