Tooth problems in a large (~60 lb) dog?

I recently noticed that my dog looks like it may have a tooth that needs to be checked out. I'm taking him to the vet this week, but was wondering what the price ranges (from your experience) I could expect if the vet decided that the tooth has to be removed or have a root canal.

Teeth cleaning around here is about $200.00.  If he just needs and extraction and there is no infection then it shouldn't be to much.  If he has an infection and they have to put him under anesthesia, then you are looking at a lot more.
