Question:

Toothache under crowned tooth?

I've had crown on tooth 4 yrs, no problem (no root canal) but within last 2 days, started aching, but now is really throbbing. At first Orajel would stop pain if I rubbed it onto gum and base of crown, but barely working now. If the nerve and tooth die, will it be OK? Or will that cause more problems? The crown doesnt seem lose---the crown is actually one that, in one piece, crowns 2 teeth and then has 2 fakes where molars would be---4 teeth in one, so I'm afraid of losing the tooth that's hurting because then the 4 part crown wouldnt work, and so I'd be missing half my front teeth almost. Please help!

  1. for pain try an ice pack.

  2. Do you seriously think an answer here is going to be better than the correct answer of seeing your dentist! Immediately, if not sooner? ANY problem with your teeth, or your health for that matter is NOT appropriate for a forum such as this. If someone gave you a wrong answer and you followed it, who do you have to blame? No, the correct answer is YOUR DENTIST, ASAP. Kust because you have a crown, it does NOT protect the rest of the tooth underneath which could start to decay if you do not take care of your teeth. SEE YOUR DENTIST!

  3. I developed a cavity under the crown

  4. Pain is obviously an indicator that something is wrong. You need to see a dentist. You might have an infection which requires antibiotics. You can discuss cosmetic dentistry with your dentist.
