Top 10 NBA draft prospects in the NCAA Tournament – Part 1
With the Playoffs nearing, the NBA franchises have already started scouting prospective players for next season’s NBA draft in June. The scouts will be off to Charlotte to get a closer look at Duke guard, Kyrie Irving, who is considered
to have top college prospects. As the NCAA tournament kicks off on Friday, they will be hoping he is healthy enough to play for the Blue Devils in that game.
Besides Kyrie Irving, there are a lot of other talented players that the scouts will be drooling over, namely, Derrick Williams, Jared Sullinger, Harrison Barnes, and Marcus Morris - all of whom will be under the strict scrutiny
of the scouts.
The top 10 players that are likely to be garnering the most attention in the NCAA tournament are:
1. Kyrie Irving – PG, Duke, 6-2
A true point guard, Irving is quick on his feet, nimble, and has the unselfish demeanour that is desired by every head coach. He has excellent court vision and can handle the ball dexterously. He has the ability to draw the defence
in with his hard drives and dish the ball out to the open man for the easy jumpshot. Irving makes the team stronger with his all-round abilities, and can help make the coaching job easier because of his talent at playing the 1-guard position. Currently nursing
an injury, he is going to be the main focus of attention at the NCAA tournament.
2. Derrick Williams – F, Arizona, 6-8
Derrick is one of the most genetically gifted and explosive athletes in the college game today. Williams’ performance has been consistent throughout, and he remains the main focus of the game, whenever teams play Arizona. Teams
have to specially design defences to contain the young Williams.
3. Jared Sullinger – PF, Ohio State, 6-8
While his consistent domination in the low post cannot be doubted, at 6-8, his height is a major concern for most scouts. A powerful rebounder, he perhaps is not the most athletically gifted player in the top prospects, but has
a high basketball IQ. Even though he received double-teams and triple-teams every night, Sullinger has been able to put up good numbers throughout.
4. Marcus Morris – PF/ C, Kansas, 6-9
Of the Morris twins, Marcus is the one who is more offensively inclined. He possesses exceptional footwork and has all the necessary ingredients to be a Big-Man. He is equally comfortable facing up the defender or backing him down.
A capable three-point shooter, Marcus is well versed with the pick-and-roll play and is pretty effective with its execution. Not a great athlete or rebounder, Marcus Morris has his strengths and his weaknesses.
5. Harrison Barnes – SG/ SF, North Carolina, 6-8
Harrison has an effective jumpshot, good size, in addition to having exceptional footwork. His jab step is quick and effective at putting defenders off-balance, and Barnes is skilled enough to create his own scoring opportunities.
Ever since Kendall Marshall filled in the PG position, and started distributing the ball around the floor, Barnes has been putting up good numbers with his exceptional shooting ability.
