Top 10 ‘happenings’ of 2010/11 season so far – Part 1
This has been one great season so far, with all the drama taking place on the pitch, there has been even more action off it as well. We have seen some top teams fail to make the sort of impact that was expected of them.
We have also seen some managers sacked when no one expected their departure, while others have stayed longer than expected. The first six months of the season have brought some moments that have caused a real stir in the media this season.
Here is our list of top 10 such happenings of the season so far.
10. Sam Allardyce sacked as manager of Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but big Sam is your ideal mid table team manager. His departure came as a huge shock to everyone as Blackburn had been on a decent run of late.
However, new Indian owners of the Lancashire club decided to part ways with their manager, after being at the helm for only a week. The sacking would have come as a surprise to Sam Allardyce as well but he has got plenty of experience in dealing with such
situations.
Although, Sam is not one of the more loved managers in the league (apart from Sir Alex – who loves him), there was a feeling of sympathy for the former Bolton and Newcastle manager. We all unanimously agree that he was quite unfortunate to lose his job,
especially after his team was sitting pretty around mid table.
9. Tottenham’s attractive football - The emergence of superstars
Tottenham have continued from where they had left last season, and in fact they have improved a great deal on that. The emergence of ‘world class’ http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 and the arrival Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart has seen Spurs move up to the next level.
Their form was a bit stuttering at the start, but since then they have been playing and winning games in style. Their biggest problem remains their defence and if they can improve on that, they will certainly have the players to challenge for titles.
They are currently in fourth place and on current form they are the favourites for that spot. Although we are discussing only the premier league here but it is worth mentioning that Spurs topped their Champions League group and demolished reigning champions
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan at White Hart Lane, thanks to the stunning Gareth Bale.
8. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 scores five goals against Blackburn Rovers
He can be unstoppable on his day as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Blackburn found out this season. He scored a hatrick against Liverpool earlier in the season but his five goal haul against Blackburn was simply remarkable.
It was only the second in the history of the premier league that a player managed to put the ball 5 times in the back of the net in a single match.
He currently sits on top of the goal scoring charts with 14 goals; many thanks to his 5 goal haul against Blackburn.
7. Bolton Wanderers - The Owen Coyle factor
When Owen Coyle was appointed the manager of Bolton Wanderers, a few eyebrows were raised. It wasn’t clear how he was an improvement on Gary Megson, but the former Burnley boss has transformed this Bolton side in no time.
He quietly went about building a decent Burnley side with very limited funds and has now made his mark at the Reebok Stadium as well. He changed the Bolton style of play and took the side from being a 'long ball favouring' physical team to a team which plays
attractive football.
The upturn in the form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Elmander-c18782 has played a huge part in Bolton’s successful season so far, but credit must go to Owen Coyle, who has merged those same players to play a different and beautiful brand of football.
