Top 10 ‘happenings’ of 2010/11 season so far – Part 2
6. Blackpool
A bit similar to Bolton in terms of their attractive nature of play, but the seasiders have been a breath of fresh air in their first ever premier league campaign.
The way they have attacked teams away from home speaks volume about the attitude of Ian Holloway’s men. They boost the 4th best away record in the league with their most memorable moment coming at Anfield.
They came and attacked Liverpool from the onset and took the game to Liverpool and eventually ran out 2-1 winners. They are on 25 points and heading for a mid table finish in their debut season.
5. Chris Hughton sacked as Newcastle manager
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton had worked wonders at St James Park; he brought Newcastle United back to the premier league after only one season in the Championship and had Newcastle comfortably sitting around mid table.
This was when the axe fell on him and it not only shocked Hughton, the fans and players showed their discontent at his departure as well.
Furthermore, he was replaced by Alan Pardew who was handed a ‘five year’ contract. Absolutely unbelievable.
4. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 demands a transfer
This one came as a huge shock to everyone even though this shocking news came after a horrendous world cup and embarrassing revelations about Rooney’s personal life.
The news made headlines everywhere and it came out to be that Rooney wanted out of Manchester to bring about a change in environment.
However, as was expected, Sir Alex rejected his request and talked him into signing a new contract and he eventually stayed with his beloved Manchester United.
3. Tevez does a Rooney
It was actually hilarious to see Tevez hand in a transfer request. Unlike Rooney, Tevez was enjoying one of his best time as a footballer, skippering the Citizens and scoring goals week in and week out.
He stated that the reason behind his actions was that his relationship with top officials at the club had deteriorated to the point that it was now irreparable and that he was extremely homesick as his family couldn’t adjust to life in England.
However, just after days of handing in a transfer request, which was rejected by the club, Tevez made a dramatic U-turn and pledged his alliance with the club.
2. Roy Hodgson and the demise of Mighty Red
When Rafa departed for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 last season, no one was ever expecting Liverpool to challenge for titles, but none could have contemplated a season of mediocrity at Anfield.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 have been all over the place this season. They were never on track and under Roy they played negative and seriously sinful football.
The lack of form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 has been well documented but the fact remained that Hodgson had applied tactics applicable to mid table clubs and not Liverpool.
His slamming of the fans for their the lack of support after their 8th defeat of the season to bottom side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952, at Anfield, proved to be the biggest catalyst in the process of him being sacked. Having said that, Roy was always walking on thin
ice and didn't seem to fit too well with the whole idea of managing one of the top clubs of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 anyway.
1. Chelsea’s fall from 7th heaven
It would have taken a brave man to bet against Chelsea retaining the league title after 10 games, when the blues seemed to overcome everything that was thrown at them. They were not just winning games but were winning them in style and hammering goals right,
left and centre.
However, the next eleven games have turned their season upside down. With just 2 wins during this period http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have slumped to 5th in the table and their title aspirations are now all but over.
They will now love to finish in the top 4 but 10 points from 11 games isn’t the kind of form needed to finish in the top 4, let alone the Championship.
