Top 10 horses of 2012 GB season - Part 2
The ongoing GB season has proved to a mixture of happiness and sorrow for Nathaniel. John Gosden’s charge kicked off his 2012 campaign on a winning note at Sandown, where he took a shocking ¾-length triumph over the 11-4 favourite, Farhh, in the Group 1,
Coral-Eclipse (British Champions Series).
A big win right at start of the season was a huge achievement for the 4-year-old. The fans were expecting him to offer more, but the son of Galileo lost the luck factor. He missed the glory just by a nose at Ascot, ahead of finishing second to Snow Fairy
in the Group 1, Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes.
With 456,585 pounds, Nathaniel is at the fourth place in the list of top 10 horses so far this season. Owned by Lady Rothschild & Newsells Park Stud, the bay colt surely has a few opportunities to raise his bank balance.
As far as this season is concerned, no horse is as unlucky as Farhh. Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge started his journey with a huge bang, when sealing a convincing 6-length win at Thirsk in May.
The Godolphin-owned completely lost his rhythm thereafter, and finished second on the following four occasions. On his latest start, the 4-year-old missed the crown only by a head’s distance in the Group 1, Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Bred by Darley, the son of Pivotal surely needs to do something different in order to come out of the unlucky spell. With 382,412 pounds, Farhh is currently at the fifth spot.
Another dashing runner in the top 10 is Main Sequence. The 3-year-old has been struggling for form over the past couple of months, but his two consecutive wins which came at start of the season are still keeping him in the competition.
Trained by David Lanigan, the maverick colt made his seasonal debut on a high at Newmarket. After grabbing the big success, he carried forward the fine work, and sealed a comprehensive win at Lingfield in May.
Ahead of his recent loss at the hands of Encke at Doncaster, the son of Aldebaran secured two runner-up positions. He surely has the class and potential to get out of the lean patch quickly. So, no one can rule him out of the equation.
