Top 10 jockeys of 2012 GB season - Part 1
Who is more important in horseracing; trainer or jockey? One can hardly answer this question, because both have really good significance in the game. Jockey’s job is really tough, as he has to be on top of his mental and fitness strength. Riding in different
conditions is no easy job by any means.
Therefore, everyone shows immense respect to the riders, and they surely deserve it. If we look at the list of the most successful jockeys so far in the 2012 Great Britain (GB) season, a very close competition is currently going on between Richard Hughes
and Joe Fanning.
With 167 wins, the former is leading the chart, and the latter is just a couple of steps behind, holding 165 victories under his belt. Richard Hughes has been doing a wonderful job everywhere, but his partnership with Richard Hannon is producing the best
results.
The veteran rider recorded his first big success of the season in August, when taking The Fugue to a comprehensive win in the Group 1, Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes (British Champions Series). After guiding John Gosden’s charge to glory, he teamed up with
Richard Hannon, and won three mega events.
After dominating the Group 1, Moyglare Stud Stakes with Sky Lantern, the experienced jockey continued the great work, and rode Victrix Ludorum to an excellent triumph in the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies' Trophy.
His latest mega win hit the headlines on October 7th, when he took Olympic Glory to a marvellous triumph in the Group 1, Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere in France. Richard Hughes surely needs to maintain the highest standards in order to stay on top,
as Joe Fanning is not much behind.
The latter has plenty of races lined-up, and it will be no surprise if he stays among the toppers until end of the season. Alongside 165 victories, the maverick jockey, who has licence both for Flat and Jumps, has 127 seconds and 107 thirds to his credit.
His total prize money so far in the ongoing season is £1,036,047, which is far higher than the previous two seasons. He is expected to add a lot more money to his balance.
