Top 10 jockeys of 2012 GB season - Part 2
A very tough competition continues among the jockeys this season. Luke Morris, with 126 victories, is chasing Joe Fanning and Richard Hughes in a marvellous fashion. The veteran rider, who holds licence only for Flat, won 128 races last year. He is in a
great position to improve his figures this season, having plenty of rides booked.
He stormed into limelight in June 2007, when guiding Juniper Girl to a superb win in the John Smith's Northumberland Plate (Heritage Handicap). He has been performing quite consistency since the beginning of this GB season.
By virtue of 126 wins, 153 seconds, 138 thirds and 158 fourths, he has bagged £782,698 so far. On the first of June, he rode Clinical to an outstanding ¾-length win in the Group 3, Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored By Investec).
Morris, who was riding the daughter of Motivator for the very first time, said after the race: "Things worked out well. She's a very tough and classy filly. We got the perfect sit off Barefoot Lady and my filly picked up well and stuck it out."
With 118 triumphs, Paul Hanagan is currently at the fourth place. He also has 85 seconds, 93 thirds and 96 fourths to his name. The skilful rider has grabbed a couple of mega wins so far in the ongoing season.
Raising many eyebrows, he took Mayson to a great win in the Darley July Cup. After enjoying that success, he stated: "He really enjoyed himself out in front and the big positive was that he loves the ground."
"He jumped so well and I didn't want to take him back and I knew if I could keep him going he'd be hard to peg back - which he was. He's got a lot of speed but I'd rather be looking at races over six furlongs rather than the Nunthorpe."
Not resting on his laurels, he continued the brilliant work, and succeeded in bagging another big success at the start of this month. With Ghurair, he travelled very nicely in the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy, and eventually seized the first
place. Without a doubt, there is a lot more to come from his side.
