Top 10 passers of the football today – Part 1
Football is a team game and although skillful players catch the eye, it’s the ability to pick out a pass which makes the game so beautiful. Classy through balls and visionary long passing can carve open defences and create goal scoring opportunities.
It’s a skill which is of immense importance. Ask any manager, and he would prefer a better passer of the ball than a skillful player. Over the years we have seen some great exponents of all kinds of passing, whether it’s short, long, or through.
Bettor.com has come up with a list of top 10 passers of the football who are currently playing the game. Here is our countdown to top 10.
10. Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan)
The World cup star and a favourite for Ballon d’Or is an old fashioned play maker. He runs the show in the midfield and is everywhere on the pitch. He is at his best when making quick short passes and keeping the ball in possession. Sneijder marshalled
Inter’s midfield last year and his passing ability was crucial to the clubs success. He was also the reason behind Holland’s run to the final in summers FIFA World Cup. Sneijder has the ability and vision to pick a pass and in truth, he is a classy old fashioned
playmaker.
9. Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
He is the heart beat of the Arsenal team and everything they create goes through him. We have seen how much Arsenal miss the Spaniard when he is out injured. His quick thinking and ability to release the ball early for his team mates makes him a special
footballer. His ground passing and movement to create goal scoring opportunities is second to none and if he can add the ability to pass long with similar authority than he can see himself moving up in this ranking. He still has a long road ahead of him but
he is the one who makes Arsenal tick.
8. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
He is probably the most complete footballer on the planet and this is why some pundits can easily ignore his unbelievable passing ability. Stevie G is always looking for a killer pass and has the highest percentage of attempts in this department than
the rest of his competitors. Gerrard has got every skill in his locker and in recent years he has played behind Torres which has restricted him to showcase his range of passing. Nevertheless every time he has played in the centre of midfield he has sprayed
passes all over the pitch, both on ground and in the air. He is a special footballer and is well worth his no.8 spot.
7. David Beckham (LA Galaxy)
By far the most stylish football player of his generation, David Beckham lacked most attributes to succeed at the top level but he made the most of what he had. Beckham is known for his pin point crosses and his trade mark sliced long balls across
the pitch. The manner in which he executes his long range passing makes him so pleasing to the eye. He spent his best years at Manchester United on the right wing but with time he has played as a deep lying play maker, mainly because of his ability to see
a pass from over 50 yards.
6. Guti (Besiktas)
Guti could have easily topped this chart, had he been more consistent in his career. His vision is incredible and is never shy of trying an audacious pass. After 15 years of first team football at Real Madrid, Guti bid farewell to Madrid’s faithful
but he left a lasting impression on them. His famous back heal assist last season showed why Guti, when on song, is in a league of his own. Lack of consistency is one of the major reasons for his number 6 spot.
