Top 10 players of 2012 season – MLB Featured - Part 1
As 2012 Major League Baseball regular season comes to an end, it is a good time to prepare a list of those players who dominated Major League Baseball. Considering the 2012 season is one of the most exciting seasons of all time, the fans have a lot to look
forward during the playoffs. I hope you will enjoy this article.
10. Troy Tulowitzki
Troy Tulowitzki is a multi dimensional player. He has the ability to make his presence feel in every department of the game. In addition to being an excellent hitter, he can throw the ball as good as anyone else.
The right hander posted some impressive number during the regular season. Smacking eight home-runs with an incredible 0.846 OPS, he finished the season with a healthy .287 average. He drove in 33 runs with 27 RBI’s in just 47 games.
The 27-year-old dazzled Colorado Rockies’ fans with his bat speed as well as the gloves. If Tulo can continue his impressive in the next season, surely he will be placed a lot higher on our list of top 10 players.
9. Prince Fielder
Prince Fielder moved to Detroit as part of a trade that took place during the off season. The left handed striker had a memorable last season when he hit 30 home-runs with 100 plus RBI’s. At one point, it seemed as if he will better his performance in any
game he appeared.
He was expected to make his magic work at Comerica Park as well but that has not turned out to be the case. His best performance came during the Home Run Derby when he overpowered New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano to claim his second HRD title in just four
years.
“I think he probably could hit 45 or 50 homeruns. I think he can do some things that personally I was never able to do and some of the other ball players were unable to do. He is gifted with tremendous strength. He can hit the ball to left field, center
field, right field,” said Hall of Famer Hank Aaron.
“If I had to choose one player in the game to be the leader of a team, it would be Prince, because of what he brings on the field and in the clubhouse with his personality,” said former team-mate Matt Wise.
The hard hitting Fielder has a decent .313 batting average in 2012 with 108 RBI’s and 30 home-runs. His .940 OPS and .528 SLG are also among the top 20 in the American League. Having the likes of Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, Brennan Boesch, Delmon Young and
Austin Jackson in their batting line-up, Tigers are certainly one of the strongest offensive teams in the American League Central Division.
8. Justin Verlander
Another Tigers’ player, Justin Verlander deserves to be on our list. Since making his Major League Baseball debut, the hard throwing ace has given some memorable performance. However, none of the seasons were as good as 2011 when he won the Pitching Triple
Crown Award.
Striking-out 250 batters with a superb 24-5 win-loss record, Verlander claimed the AL Most Valuable Player Award for the first time in his career. The right hander hasn’t looked back since then.
Overall, he finished the season 17-8 with a brilliant 2.64 ERA, leading the Major. Also, how can we forget his domination in September when he was 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA, helping the Tigers win their second straight AL Central title.
