Top-10 players to watch at the Shell Houston Open – Part 1
All the players are excited to play the Shell Houston Open, starting this week, as it is a final tune-up event for many professionals before the Masters.
The Shell Houston Open is staged by the professional golf association, at the interesting site of Redstone Golf Club, Tournament Course, Humble, Texas.
Another appealing factor attached with the tournament is the purse of $6 million, out of which the winner will earn $1,062,000 and additional 500 FedEx Cup points.
The PGA staged event will be starting this week, from March 29 to April 1. This will be the final chance for the players to practise and to get ready for the first major of the year.
There are about hundred players in the field of the Shell Houston Open, but among them, experts have declared ten golfers as the hottest.
Recently, golf experts released the top-10 list containing names of the most favourite golf players to play at the Tournament Course of Redstone Golf Club.
These 10 are the most competent players in the field and will be giving tough times to the others. The Masters Tournament is being eyed by many. Hence, all the players will be giving their best in Texas.
Steve Stricker is on the top most position and all the previews are in favour of him. He will be entering the golf course to secure a win and to lead over the others.
The 45-year-old American professional golf player is currently holding the 5th position in the world ranking and is aiming to be the proud winner of the tournament before the Masters.
He has played four tournaments in the current year and recorded impressive finishes in most of them.
He started the PGA season from the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and amazed the spectators by winning the title and $1,120,000, in January.
He has also finished among the top-10 of the leaderboard at World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship and World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship.
Stricker is in his full form now and has improved his performance since January. Hence, he is more confident and focused on bagging the victory at Shell Houston Open.
Johnson Wagner is the second hottest in the field. He is the winner of Sony Open in Hawaii, where he had scored 13-under par and 267 strokes in total.
With this top finish, the 32-year-old American also secured a top-30 leaderboard position at most of the tournaments.
He was also tied for the fourth position at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard and cheered all the spectators with his enormous scoring.
Hence, he has a prominent position on the field and is left with ample chances at the Shell Houston Open.
He can lead the scores and is also confident to be impressive throughout the four-day tournament.
Phil Mickelson is the third favourite player. The current world number 15 won the title of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February 2012, by scoring 17-under 269.
The 41-year-old American professional gave his best since January. After winning the mega prize event, he also competed well at the Northern Trust Open.
He was close to winning the event again, played in a play-off mode, but finished the tournament on the runner-up position.
Securing a top-5 place at two PGA staged tournaments makes him, the third hottest and favourite. His position is also strong in the field of the Shell Houston Open.
Graeme McDowell, the 32-year-old Northern Irish professional golf player, is the fourth expert pick. He was also impressive since January and has played five events so far.
Out of five, he was tremendous in three. He finished on the ninth position of the Honda Classic and competed well against the other field members.
