Top 10 queens of the tennis world (Part 2)
In part one we discussed the top five tennis women players of the open era, the remaining five queens are as follows:
Jelena Jankovic: This Serbian tennis star is world No. 6 player. It seems to be that Jelena Jankovic hasn’t recovered from her vigorous actions or efforts in the fall of 2008, when she played consecutively for five weeks to grab No. 1 ranking.
Unfortunately she hasn’t shown good performance in her past 13 matches.
Jelena Jankovic needs to boost her confidence and game. Her top requirement for the time being is excellent coaching, so she could come up with better results.
Her performance in the U.S. Open was not very tempting. She defeated Simona Halep and Mirjana Lucic in the first and second round and finally lost to Kaia Kanepi in the third round.
This Serb is often recognized as one of the toughest players in the open era. Due to her defensive abilities and counter punching capabilities, she is noted as a strong counter puncher.
Samantha Stosur: Perhaps this queen hasn’t achieved much since French Open. Her arm injury was the biggest hurdle this year throughout. This Australian tennis star has a chance to prove herself in the upcoming year-ending championships;
hopefully she will not waste her golden chance and will come out with excellent results.
In general, she is a baseliner. She feels more comfortable striking balls on the baseline and comes to the net less often. Recently her best results were visible in doubles, maybe because of her great volleys and drop shots.
Francesca Schiavone: The confidence is always visible in this tennis star. Like Stosur, she has never played a single match at the year ending championships. Francesca’s performance was appreciable in the U.S. Open 2010, where she won the
hearts of her fans with her all court game.
This Fed Cup finalist has a unique style of playing. She uses heavy slice on her backhand and also has a powerful forehand. This Italian is one of those tennis stars who could use one handed backhand, which is really rare.
Her biggest achievement so far is her French Open 2010 singles title, which made her the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam event in singles.
Agnieszka Radwanska: She is currently world No. 9 player, a ranking she achieved on 20 September 2010. Agnieszka Radwanska is the first Polish to win Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title.
Unfortunately, she is never a tough competitor in the Grand Slams, unless she turns into the tennis professional power player. In all four Grand Slams 2010 she has played, she failed to exceed the fourth round.
Hopefully this Polish player will work hard on her serves and will justify her ranking in the upcoming year-ending championships.
The tennis sensation has some very strong points, which include her all court game. She won three titles in 2008 on all three kinds of surfaces. She is good with her both forehand and backhand. Usually her favourite shot is her forehand, especially the inside
out forehand which is her all time winning shot. Owning to this shot, she is also regarded as the “Power Player”.
Elena Dementieva: A lot has been said about Elena Dementieva during 2010, as she can’t seem to win the big matches. Throughout U.S. Open, French Open and Australian Open, her performances were just satisfactory. Tennis expert are of the
view that the reason for her wavering performance maybe due to her torn calf muscle, which prevented her winning the match against Francesca Schiavone in the semi finals.
This Russian professional tennis player is an offensive baseliner with extraordinary groundstroke off both sides and excellent defensive abilities. In her recent matches, her running forehand has been declared as her key weapon which she rarely misses. An
added advantage is that she is comfortable with all surfaces, as her playing style helps her to adapt to each surface, although her best results have been shown on hard courts.
